This year’s 74th (virtual) BCSS Annual Spring Meeting was a great success, with over 100 registrants and eight sponsors. We had an amazingly high caliber of research presentations and invited talks, including a wonderful talk with our Royal College Speaker, Dr. Najma Ahmed.
Congratulations to top three winners for the Resident Research Prizes for this year!
- 1st place ($750) – Ms. Sophie Carr, “Improving Adherence to an Incorrect Surgical Count Protocol”
- 2nd place ($500) – Dr. Lina Cadili, “COVID-19 and breast cancer at a Regional Breast Centre: Our flexible approach during the pandemic.”
- 3rd place ($250) – Dr. Subin Punnen, “Outcomes of high MELD liver transplant recipients: An experience from a Canadian center”

A big welcome to the Society’s incoming President is Dr. Anise Barton. Dr. Barton takes over from Dr. Ahmer Karimuddin whose term was extended for a second year at the wake of the pandemic. Thank you to Dr. Karimuddin for all his efforts for the past two years!

Next year marks the Society’s 75th year of the Annual Spring Meeting which will be held at the Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, BC, May 5 – 7, 2022.
