2016 BC Surgical Society Annual Spring Meeting

little-shuswapThe BC Surgical Society held its 69th Annual Spring Meeting May 5 – 7 at the beautiful Quaaout Lodge at Talking Rock Golf Resort on Little Shuswap Lake. The meeting was attended by just under 60 surgeons and residents, and was highly successful. More than 84% of attendees agreed that the meeting increased their knowledge base, and 78% of attendees agreed that the meeting enhanced their clinical skills.

The Society’s Royal College speaker was Dr. Carol-Anne Moulton, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto, Staff Surgeon at the University Health Network and Scientist at the Wilson Centre. Other guest speakers included Dr. Andrew Seal, who gave an enlightening talk on art and surgery, and Dr. Eric Paetkau who was the banquet speaker.

Resident research prizes were awarded. Dr. Grup Johal received the first place prize for his paper entitled ‘Fraser Health Authority (FHA) comprehensive inguinal hernia audit’. Drs. Carla Pajak and Chris Zroback received 2nd and 3rd place awards respectively.

drseal_residentsWith the wonderful weather, attendees took advantage of the beautiful lake-side resort and the on-site golf course. The children enjoyed an evening of crafts, a great tour of the Native structures and land, and some scheduled tee-time!

The next BC Surgical Society Annual Spring Meeting will take place at the Tigh-Na-Mara Resort in Nanaimo, May 4th – May 6th, 2017.
