The BC Surgical Society held its 71st Annual Spring Meeting May 3 – 5, 2018 at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, BC. The meeting was attended by 65 surgeons and residents, and was enjoyed by all.
The Royal College speaker was Dr. Christopher Schlachta, Professor of the Departments of Surgery and Oncology, Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University, and Medical Director at CSTAR, London Health Sciences Centre.
Other guest speakers included Dr. Andrea MacNeill, Surgical Oncologist at Vancouver General Hospital and the BC Cancer Agency, reviewed management of retroperitoneal tumors.
The awards banquet opened with a beautiful First Nations Ceremony with ambassadors from the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations.
Our guest speaker, Mr. Mike Konkin, a CPA by profession, spoke to us about how he started his own brewery in his‘spare-time’.
Resident research prizes at the Annual Awards Banquet were awarded as follows:Dr. Kristin DeGirolamo, 1st place; Dr. Daniel Lustig, 2nd place; and Dr. Tiffany Chan, 3rd place.
Our incoming President for the 2018-2019 term is Dr. James Baughan.
