2017 BC Surgical Society Annual Spring Meeting

The BC Surgical Society held its 70th Annual Spring Meeting May 4 – 6, 2017 at the Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort and Conference Centre in Parksville, BC. The meeting was attended by just over 90 surgeons and residents, and was enjoyed by all.

The Royal College speaker was Dr. Adrian Park, Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Anne Arundel Medical Center and Professor of Surgery at the John Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Other guest speakers included Dr. Denis Petrunia, a gastroenterologist from Victoria, and our banquet speaker, Dr. Edward Ishiguro, Professor Emeritus and member of the Department of Microbiology at UVIC.

Resident research prizes were awarded as follows: Dr. Dean Percy, 1st place; Dr. Kristen DeGirolamo, 2nd place; and Dr. Daniel Lustig, 3rd place.

Our cocktail evening and banquet dinner was attended by just under 150 people; our biggest yet! Being the 70th Anniversary of the Society’s Spring Meeting, past presidents were sent a special invitation to attend this dinner. Dr. Ray Dykstra spoke to the rich history of the Society and work of the past-presidents, with Mrs. Tanyss Bugis adding words of appreciation for this valuable Society. Fun was had by all, including the children who enjoyed an evening of golf and crafts while their parents attended the dinner.

Some great moments of the various events were captured, including a photo with the past-presidents, and the outgoing/incoming presidents.

We hope you will join us next year for the Society’s 71st Annual Spring Meeting (May 3-5, 2018) at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

See you all there!
